wbs smells like yeast?
    #1753706 - 07/27/03 05:50 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

my friend and his pet kramer just soaked a bag of wbs last night and they thought it smelled like yeast this morn. is this normal?

they have already cooked 5jars and will cook the others tonight...the whole house stunk like hot beer after that.

they figured that the pres. cook. would kill any yeast in the jars so they should be alright......can you help them?

If fermentation has occured, their is no real problem. One thing you might want to do is rinse the grain / WBS very well, since fermentation produces chemicals that can be harmful to growing mycelia (i.e. alcohol)

Good luck

They don't need to rinse 'em -- that'll just eliminate nutrients.  The alcohol will be forced off in the process of sterilization.

They're fine. My friend's WBS always stinks after he soaks it.
