Proof of Delivery
Depart USPS Sort Facility
January 11, 2013

Processed through USPS Sort Facility
January 11, 2013, 6:48 am

It was supposed to arrive today and the last Depart usps sort facility was a city about an hour away from me at around 7am and I thought it should have arrived. Also I used my name but not my last name on the package. What does this mean? Should I worry?

You'll probably get it, but 2CE is a schedule 1 controlled substance. You might as well have ordered LSD or mushrooms through the mail.

Don't sweat it, it seems you did not import it and they can only open mail without a warrant when it comes over the border. Tracking is unreliable at best and mailmen screw up sometimes. You'll get it.

That's only for sealed mail: first class, priority, and express.  I'm not aware of any other class of mail that requires a warrant to open.  Other classes can be opened by inspectors or clerks for a variety of reasons.  I believe they still require reasonable suspicion to take the parcel out of the mailstream for criminal/investigatory reasons unrelated to calculating correct postage/address/etcet.

Well, was the parcel addressed to you or a current resident who regularly recieves mail?  If it wasn't its possible that could reflect the post office forwarding the parcel to someone of that name in the surrounding area, though I have no info on what the DCN status would show.

I'm not really sure about the "forwarded" part... not sure I've seen that before. It's been a while, but I think when it's en route I'm used to seeing "...with carrier for delivery" or something to that effect. There is usually a stop between the sort facility and my place, however I don't believe that's normally listed. As I said, it's been a while since I've gotten any kind of tracked package, so maybe they've changed it. If you still haven't seen it, or at least by tomorrow, I would really start to wonder, if that last stop was a local sort facility....

While your thorough answer is awesome and may be helpful to someone down the line, I'm not sure that's relevant in this case. While I believe it can be purchased as a separate service, in my experience when a package has tracking, it's usually priority or express.

Delivery Confirmation has to be purchased as an extra service on every mail class besides express.  You can get it on priority at a reduced rate or free (forget if they offer free) if you print your own labels, but its still an extra service.

The only distinction with priority is that priority qualifies for the service regardless of the package type whereas other mail classes need to meet additional criteria (used to be greater than 3/4 inch in at least one point in its smallest dimension, though I'm not sure what the rule is now).

Tracking is free on first class packages over 3/4" thick, priority, and several other services if you print your own labels, not just priority. It does not have to be purchased as a separate service.

I'm glad you got your package. Problem solved.

The free tracking i mentioned for labels you print yourself only applies to domestic shipments. Over the border and it costs a bundle to track.

Please back up this statement.  It wasn't like that when I was using it a lot, and a visit to the USPS website shows there's a fee for Delivery Confirmation on First Class (and other classes) regardless of whether you print the label yourself.

I just used it today and once again, it was free. Perhaps a few users of online postage can chime in, perhaps ebay shippers and users of paypal as well as other services? Its really hard to find all usps policies and fees in one page. Here is a place to start

https://www.usps.com/ship/insurance-and-extra-services.htm

This page shows that on first class parcels and parcel post the tracking fee is "reduced" but fails to mention that its no extra charge. I know you don't believe me but perhaps a few others will speak up? Its true no matter how much you doubt it.

And here ebay announces it

Attention sellers! You now get FREE Delivery Confirmation on First-Class Mail (specifically First-Class Package Service parcels only) with eBay Labels

http://announcements.ebay.com/tag/free-delivery-confirmation/

I could have done a little more digging but i think this one is more or less settled.

You're right.  I looked at the DMM and their price schedule indicates first class and priority both get free DC with customer-printed labels.

SWIM has seen forwarded twice. Both times very expensive packages were stolen and tracking never updated after showing 'forwarded'

Good luck.
