unfortuantly, there is no wayt to fix it, except next time...dont pack substrate at all...you want it to be as airy as possible to allow the mycellium room/air to colonise the cake with.

holy crap for crap does it make a difference weather you tap it down or not. i did the same thing with b+ my first time. tapped it like every other scoop of substrate thinking, well, if i fit the most i can in there, they'll have more to eat! WRONG. took them a lil over a month to colonize. now i have four that i haven't tapped down at all and it's been 13 days and two of the four are about 75% colonized. i am thuroughly shocked at the difference!

are you guys keeping the tape over the innoculation holes? cuz my jars used to take me monthes of colonizing time until i just took the tape off one of the innoculation hole ports, now my jars take me no more then 20 days max to colonize, just make sure they are in a warm and sterile environment, i use a rubbermaid container i got for 3 dollars
works good for me

Yeah, a common mistake is packing the substrate. A big no-no.

Hey people! When I prepared my PF jars, I filled them up to the bottom of the threads on the jar. I "lightly" tamped them down.(2 or 3 light smacks on your other hand), then added just enough substrate to take it back up to the bottom of the threads. Then I filled them to the top with the straight verm. I inoculated them on 7/18/03 and today(7/27/03) they all are allmost covered on the outside and underneath. Thats only 9 days. Here is a pick of them on saturday(7/26/03). Their kickin ass!!

I did the same, along with using to much water, but mine still grew, well besides like 4 which have been stalled at 90% for like 4 days(ahh contam! i think)
