Definitely a fishing fly, ugly as hell otherwise. Notice the bead applied to the trailer hook line. I've been getting short strikes from the leech patterns with the bead attached to the head of the fly, so try the reverse? success..

It was raining so luckily I had my rain jacket zipped al the way up. So I only swamped my sleeves up to my elbows catching myself. Coulda' broke the rod, again.
Now I know that merino wool is way more absorbent than capiliene, and take longer to dry out..

Spey/switch casting is interesting for sure...I ended up winning a really nice $600 12" 6/7 wt.
spey rod at a large fly fishing event last week..now to get out to the casting lessons that
were included to get a good education.

Fly fishing is one of the few hobbies that has bitten me like mycology did...I have picked
up a spinning rod once since I started fly fishing this summer to fish with the girlfriend...
now I am trying to get her into fly fishing lol.

I am in love...something about tossing line 50-100 feet effortlessly with a two handed rod is just
satisfying on so many levels.

You should definitely get a copy of this though mostly written for one handed rods the techniques are pretty much the same. An excellent  resource. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/cast-ed-jaworowski/1103279157
You should be able to throw 100 feet with any rod, I build all of my own rods and set them up to do that with 2 or 3 back casts. Even my 3 WT is capable of 115ft I have a 2 wt that (when I have time) I will try to set up like that but by my thought is maybe closer to 75 - 85.

I have been spending a lot of time at the bench myself, have tied up a lot of dries and nymphs getting ready for trout season. Also have been stocking my steelhead and bass boxes. What do you have on the agenda to tie?

Bunny leeches, pink ones. There I said it, pink ones, obnoxiously bright pink. Along with some squidros and intruders. I tie what I think is going to work for current water conditions and so far its working out great. Never thought I'd throw big pink flies  but the guys pulling plugs in the drift boats say thats what gets bit more and harder. Can't argue with that..

Gotta throw what they like. I tie a lot of bluegill flies in pink, they hammer them around my
area. Same goes for steelhead, lots of pinks, purples, blacks and blues. I think I may try
to tie a few classic salmon/steelhead flies today...feeling a little adventurous.

Do you have any of the blue grey pheasant feathers? They make for really good speys and steelies can't resist em.
