Help me buy a new bed
    #17515026 - 01/07/13 11:40 PM (11 years, 22 days ago)

So I am looking for a california king bed. I am 6'4" and my feet have always hanged off the end. Here's my dilemma... I really want a memory foam mattress because they sleep AMAZING. But I really want a spring mattress because sleeping isnt the only thing I use a bed for. I dated a girl last year with a big memory foam mattress and have never slept so well. We ended up doing it doggy style or with her lying on the bed and me standing next to it. You never realize how much you use the push back given by a spring mattress.

What do yall think? Have any of you used a foam topper over a spring mattress?

Memory foam is worth it..
It is not bouncy like a spring bed but the sleep is out of this world.

I disagree, I find memory foam mattresses sleep awfully.  They get so hot, and they don't support in the same way as a spring mattress.

I recently bought a very high-end pocket coil mattress with 2000 pocket coils, and it is absolutely incredible.  At Sleep Country (at least in Canada) you can talk them down ~65% off of the list price.  I got a $3500 mattress for $1250.

I love my memory foam mattress (from Sleep Country too - go Canada).
It took about two weeks of getting used to, but now I much much prefer it to any other mattress and would never go back.

I disagree - I find it's amazing for sex and sleep.

To each their own - everyone has different preferences, especially for something like sleeping.  I slept on a memory foam mattress topper in first year when the res beds were shit, and I wasn't a huge fan, although it did help immeasurably on those horrible res beds.

I'm just saying don't count out a pocket coil mattress if you haven't tried out a nice one.  I found most of them were pretty mediocre, but as I said my bed has ~2000 pocket coils where in less expensive mattresses you typically would find ~1200, and it's a huge difference.

The toppers are completely different from an actual memory foam mattress (from a company like Tempur).
That is true about the pocket coil mattresses - the more expensive ones are much much much nicer. The same goes for memory foam however - the expensive good quality ones are a world of difference from the ones you pickup from costco / ikea / etc.

I have the shittiest spring bed in the world.  Literally, you have to sleep in between the rows of springs or they are poking you all fucking night.  I got a 4 inch memory foam topper and it's pretty fucking awesome, although not perfect.  You do tend to sink in a little so it can make missionary tough unless the girl is pretty small but there are plenty of other positions you can do.  Truth be told, I find most girl's have beds not really optimal for sex.

Fair enough.  I have slept on a full memory foam mattress before and I did not like it, but it was a cheap one ($300 for a queen), so I'm sure that was part of it.

That being said I definitely do prefer pocket coil mattresses though.
