Has anyone ever had this happen......................
    #1750288 - 07/26/03 07:27 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

I am just wondering if anyone has ever gotton contams of whole grain due to not pressure cooking long enough?
They usually say that 45 minutes and 15psi is standard for making sure sterilization is complete, but I wonder if anyone has gotten into trouble for not cooking long enough?

It can happen for sure. If it were me, I'd PC for 1 hour.

I have ALWAYS pc'd for just over 1 hour....ususally 1 hour 15min, maybe overkill, but i have never yet had contam due to lack of pc'ing, out of probably 50-60 pint jars of corn spawn...

ANNO,,,,you ask who is THEY???? You know, I have always wondered that myself. Who ever they are, it does seem like they give a lot og info out? Maybe I just call everything else THEY? I guess I used the word "They" aloy because there seems to have been a lot written about these things.
By the way ANNO, I just wanted to tell you that you've always seemed to me like one of the coolest members on these boards.
We are about the same age too. I am almost 30, which is pretty much same as you right? Anyways thank you for always being so helpful and friendly in giving good advice.  Maybe I will let you know when I find out who "THEY" really are.

I agree,I always PC my substrate for one hour but you should be ok at 45 mins though. If you are using whole grian you should let it soak in water overnight so the spores of rye are able to get serilized too and so they hold mositure better(before you PC it)
