All the reading i have done has pointed to straw being very contam resistant once it has been pasturized, also i have found spraying ANY substrate with a 5-10% h2o2 solution seems to keep contam rates down very well. personal experience: i have only had contam problems when i did not have a Pressure Cooker, and i didnt spray with H2O2.

Just sterilize your substrates right and be very steril/clean and you shouldn't have much trouble with any substrate
