Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus cyanescens are normally the two your going to find in a cow field.
If you're going to hunt for cubes/cyans for the first time, maybe you should start by finding a few fields. Google maps/Earth is great for that.
Also, since you're a beginner, try to only break one law at a time and avoid trespassing in addition to picking illegal mushrooms.
What I mean by this is that anytime I post pictures of any psilocybe mushrooms, they were found on state or private land (that I had permission to be hiking on)... therefore I was allowed to be where I was, and the only crime I may or may not have committed would have been picking cubes/cyans... however, noone cared what I was doing out there in the first place...
it's illegal to remove anything from park lands... that rule applies to tiny pebbles as well as shrooms...
FWC usually patrols these parks, and tbh they only give a shit about poaching and the occasional bum that decides to set up camp.
Also, the #1 problem for most south FL park employees are gay couples that go in unauthorized areas to hook up. No joke.
A good way to find public state parks, etc, that have cattle leases is to look up all of your local parks in a book like this one...
look em up online, wait for rain, then pack your bags and go find out!
This book will help you identify 99% of what you find... this book can also help. This book will help you identify the habitat you're in and also what kind of trees are living around you... which are also important parts in identifying your finds.
cheers from a little south of you!

Ok so I have some Panaeolus cyanescens. I've eaten about 3-4 small to mid size caps and it's been an hour. I feel a little oozy but I'm not tripping or anything. About how many fresh caps should you eat for a good trip?

Cyans are a lot more potent then cubes.
Have you tripped before? I'd say 1.5 to 2 grams would be like a 3-3.5 gram cube trip. If this is your first time I wouldn't eat 2 grams though lol
The visuals on cyans are also a lot more pronounced.

You should NEVER eat an unidentified mushroom. Next time you go hunting post up some pics and we can help you make sure there legit, as there are some that are deadly if eatin..
Most likely though you ate Panaeolus Antillarum which looks close to a Pan Cyan. There inactive but harmless. If you have any pics post them up. Did they bruise blue?

Well shit you ate them without knowing exactly what they were? Hopefully they are Pan Ants like misto said, They are very common from my experience. Because if you ate the amount discussed earlier, you should be tripping pretty good by now.
Keep an eye on yourself I guess?

Today they were under or near loblolly pines and live oaks. Other times under scrub pines. Everything is in sandy soil because sand is what we have here in panhandle counties between 1-5 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico. Anybody know if there's a reason I notice less mushrooms under the same types of trees closer to the Gulf?

That's possible you ate a mix for sure. Could it also be a placebo affect?
If you start to feel sick/shitty then I would be concerned

Went on a little walk yesterday didn't expect much since its been dry with no rain in my area. But ! i did stumble on some very Thick cyans thickest i ever seen.( must be the cold dry weather) I couldn't even belief it was a cyan, so i cut the cap in half and squished the steam for bruising,it did turn blue...unfortunately the mushroom was squashed and i didnt take a picture of it. found about 17 grams wet not bad proof that in these conditions the wont stop.
Good luck to all for 2013 Im personally excited for this year
