I haven't been hunting in a while. I live in Houston and I am hoping to find my first active mushroom soon. I haven't had time to go to any cow patches, so I will just be inspecting well fertilized grass for the time being. I will post pictures of other interesting mushrooms I find along the way.

I vowed not to return empty handed...
I found some really good spots to look once we get some damn rain. The effort has not ended.

To whom ever ripped the Gymnopilus spp. and Panaeolus spp. pages out of the County Library copy of Texas Mushrooms, you sir/madam are a dick. I thought it was funny that you left the Psilocybe cubensis page alone though.

I work in the oil field and I drive onto SEVERAL large acres of cow fields literally all day. I have yet to find anything and it has been heartbreaking haha. I am in the College Station/Navasota area so I thought it would be a gold mine.

Alright men, I came back with my hands full this time. I'm going to need some help identifying these babies though. I've been at it all day. I found them as they were drying. The first type, which I have the most of, are a brown cap with a creme colored hollow stem which was tinged rust colored in spots - the same color as the gills. This coloration is throwing me off. They were too dry for a print, though i tried. I'm guessing brownish. They were all found in a nice spongey bed of cow shit, hay and young grass about 5 inches thick, growing solitary and in bunches-both types. Perfect, right? I can't wait for some rain!
The last pic shows some panaeolus____? I certainly hope they are cyanescens, but they are pretty big and thick. Stem is fibrous. Grey/black print. Could be jet black, but a bit dry...

Hey Alan. I have read enough id's to know I can take your word. I'm going to eat some for the fuck of it. Recognize the others? Some were a dark brown fading to reddish orange at the edge of the cap.

Looks a bit dried out, I would get some fresher ones and fry them in butter.

Consider Bolbitius.
It seems like the answer. The odd shaped cones... no veil. The color is different than every picture and description I've read, but as in other animals, color is a common variation I guess. A lot of those I found had bell shaped caps. Thanks for the help y'all!
