Using Perlite in a Huge Terrarium---I need help!
    #1749404 - 07/25/03 08:19 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Everyone,

I have a clear, plastic 33 gallion container I am wanting to use for a terrarium. It is 28 inches long, 16 inches high and 20 inches wide.

I am planning to use perlite in it for my cakes until I get paid next week for a cool-mist set up. Will it be ok if I use this large of a container with perlite for fruiting? I know I'll have to put quite a bit more perlite in the bottom to keep humidity up.

I just need this to work for the time being...just so you know I am planning on fanning this monster until I get a better set up.

Please help me out with this one!

My iguana is using a 80 or so quart sterlite for her fruiting chamber. she said she put a bag and a half of perlite in the bottom which ended up being about 3 inches deep. she soaked the perlite in water with a little peroxide and drained before putting it in. she then poured some H2O/H2O2 into the perlite to bring the water level up to about an inch. after the setup was tested for 2 days she found it satisfactory and had 1.5 inches of water in the bottom. that and a quart jar of water and peroxide with a bubbler in it is all shes using. she says "perlite, it's a good thing" <hahaha everyone laugh at martha stewart.

sound just fine. most people use perlite then coolmist setups anyways so you dont got anything to woryabout. i would just drain it a few times befor i stuck it in tehre. you dont really need to put water in there cuz itll be pretty damp and yourgoing to be misting the hell out of that huge terrium so youll get all that water buildup at the bottom in no time. good luck to your muchies
