Medium-short story, short: I ordered some small(pea sized), cheapish metal beads. The ends are somewhat sharp. My project requires roughly 80 of them, but preferably WITHOUT sharp edges.
Instead of using a countersink or tiny sandpaper roll to do each individually, I'll let physics into the game.
Coeptual solution (will start tomorrow morning): 1 plastic bottle with screw lid, 1 or 2 liter. Some beach sand (or garnet if you have access to a sandblasting cab or a water jet) Some water Several bungie cords Duct tape 1 pickup truck (running)
Combine sand, water, beads inside of plastic bottle, screw on lid.
Stretch bungie cords between corners of pickup truck bed, using 2 or 4 to achieve a taut, but not overly tightened 'X'
Use duct tape to secure bottle + contents to center of X, horizontally, pointing forward-backward. Add more duct tape.
Forget about it for many miles.
Return after next oil change to expect beautifully sand tumbled metal beads.
Any thoughts?

It seems to be working well, though I may lower the water and sand level so that things slide around more on the corrugated bottom (side) of the bottle.

not a bad idea. very creative.
One other guy put sand inside the inside of an old used tire and put things in it to tumble and hooked it up to a little electric motor thing that turned the wheel...then he scooped it out and rinsed.
