Fried up a blue oyster and cut it in half,

It absorbed too much oil. So, I breaded and baked the rest.

You might want to try using coconut oil if you fry them again. I understand the oil has a lot of healthy properties and it does not absorb into the food like others will. I'm wanting to try this oil myself as soon as my order arrives.
Excellent looking results and great report.

This is some very exciting, interesting stuff!!!! But I cant believe no one mentioned trying this on Quinoa. Is there any reason Quinoa wouldn't work? It would be more expensive than doing it on rice for sure, but would be a even healthier end product I would think.
What about Quinoa and rice, plus the rye spawn?
Hell I'm trying it asap! Gonna try with Shiitake.

I did it with red quinoa, black beans, lentils, and wheat. The OP of this thread used some quinoa as well, check it out!
OICU812, that's interesting to hear about the coconut oil idea, thanks for the tip! I knew of it's health benefits but never heard about it nor absorbing into the food. This would be a nice benefit for myc burgers and mushrooms in general.
Versicolor, glad to hear about the P.eryngii working well. I didn't like how p. columbinus turned out, too wierdly sweet for me. I want to grow kings anyway so I'll have to order this culture.

do you need to soak the beans or rice or quinoa to prep? I would the think the end product would be kinda hard if not?

I did a soak on the beans and wheat, then a short simmer. No soak on the quinoa just a quick simmer. Don't forget you're pressure cooking for an hour or more, that will soften up just about anything. You just want to make sure it's all hydrated.

Yea, pretty exciting after all, thanks versicolor. I was looking towards rice already, and there are many species to be tested. Someone should try some hard to fruit ones.

Hi guys, sorry for digging up this thread but I want to know if what people have tried since the last post. I got busy and didn't do it anymore but it still in my mind. I'll try it again on corn.

I did shiitake, morel, blue oyster.
Did them on quinoa, black bean, brown rice, lentils, several different combinations of those. Also, combinations with different seasonings to see what would happen. I mostly just kicked em out of the jars, and scrambled them in the pan, with stirfry or omlets. They did work "ok" as patties, but somewhat fell apart after being cooked.
The shiitake was pretty decent, blue oyster was awesome, morel was good but I drank a beer with it and had a most horrible 5-6 hours of puking and felt fucked up for days. I proved pretty definitively that whatever interacts with alcohol in the morel, is in the mycellium as well. So watch out!
The jars I seasoned did good and bad, certain things seemed to slow the works from progressing as fast as their buddies. I can't remember and didn't keep a log of any of this though, so I can't say what was what with that. But really.... just spice it when you cook it lol. Don't know what I even bothered.
Sorta lost interest after that last bit where I puked all night. In all cases, with all the experiments, I would have rather had the mushroom itself.

Yes! Glad to find this thread. I did a search the other day after I took a slice out of a partially fruited Lion's Mane rye jar and fried it up, but couldn't find a thread like this. The edges of the patty were straight Lion's Mane fruit and it added a fatty/lobstery texture that was delicious. I was already planning on doing a round with quinoa, and glad to hear that blue oyster works well.
Great idea on on the beans too

If you guys haven't seen AV's post (I'm too lazy to find it right now) but I guess CS4 is the best mycelium burgers so far

Is Mycelium the new way to make mushroom risotto then? sounds like ti could be.... Maybe even cream of mushroom mycelium soup?
maybe even mycelium mushroom jelly? grow it out on a real thin layer of agar and just use it all.

I'm going to start with corn. I imagine people here will consider that more acceptable than eating sorghum. I have a buyer who wants to buy it for his product, mushroom-based energy bar of sorts. If it doesnt work, I'll use it as regular spawn.
