excited!! some questions.....
    #1748590 - 07/25/03 04:48 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

alright! my dads spores arrived....and he has some questions!

hes using regular old yellow corn, prepping then PCing and using pint jars with polyfill filters

then going to crumble and spawn to hay and maybe poo as well, havent decided...probably just hay, and case with verm/coco/lime/oyster shell.
questions...when he has the colonized mix all ready, mixxed with the hay....does it go back in the incubator till it is ready to be cased?

also when fruiting with this method.....is it neccesary for him to provide humidity? will misting provide enough moisture with the casing layer as protection?

THANKS EVERYONE for responses!

im proud of my pop

lol sounds like your dad pretty cool if he is going to be growing shrooms and is getting you to help we had another guy on this forum who his dad found out about him growing shrooms and told him to get rid of them.

answers:
yes it goes back in the incubator till it 100% coloinzes the hay then it is ready to be cased.

yeah as long as the grow/fruit chamber holds the humidity in pretty good the walls should look like they are sweating with water and yeah it's true you don't need as mush humidity when you case then you do with cakes.Hand fan the grow chamber out about 3 times a day alswell to clean out the co2 build up.

good luck to you and your dad

You would have much better results with straw.

It depends on the climate. My friend lives in a very arid climate and his casings dry quickly without humidification.

With a casing and a tight seal on the chamber, you do not need to mist. In fact you shouldn't. Just fan it out 3-4 times a day and thats about it. The casing layer could be misted every so often to replenish moisture, but is not necessary. Misting the casing is not really the same as misting to increase humidity. You dont want the air saturated with water, but you do want a moist casing layer.
