Any runners or people that want to start running / jogging

Ran 1 mile in 8 minutes 33 seconds (7.0 mph)...
Even though it wasn't much (was planning on doing more), it
Lungs feel nice and refreshed. Drank some cold water afterwards. Mind feels a little sharper.
I used to run 2 to 4 miles multiple times a week. And very fast (under 7 minute pace). Would be no problem for me to do a 1 mile sprint, set the treadmill to 11.0+mph and bust out a 5 minute 20 second mile.
Now I'm out of shape, have a slight beer gut, and I'm about 20 pounds overweight. Crossed the 200 pound barrier maybe 3-4 years ago when I stopped working out and haven't been under 200 since! Currently about 210.
I would like to get back into the habit of running 3 miles pretty much every single day. The runners high is one of the best feelings imo...

My dad got me some awesome new running shoes for Christmas and I'm dying to try them out to see how they compare to my Vibram Fivefingers but running in the cold makes my lungs feel horrible.

I really wanna get into running. Lifting hasnt gotten really stale for me so I stopped a while ago..
Should start a runners thread and we can all keep each other motivated and log our improvements.

I run half marathons +/- 3 mile-races and have finished top 10 in my age group each time. Running is way addicting. Sign up for a 5k and hold on, you might get swept up. Warming up, cooling down and cross training (core work and plyos) are as important as the running itself. Please do your body a favor and visit runnersworld.com and explore around. The forums are fairly healthy and generally knowledgeable in most aspects.
At my last half marathon there was a 190 lb guy who went 1:35, that is roughly a 7:35 mile for 13.1 miles.
Your weight is a huge factor but, on the flip side, it will not impact your ability to increase your aerobic and anaerobic threshold.
Aerobic and anaerobic you say, yes please look those two words up on runnerworld. Maybe search for a max vo2 workout. Please run a different workout each time you run. A lot of people do not grasp that simply jogging 10-20 minutes 3 times a week with no other supplementary work out or even 5 times a week, is working out inefficiently. I can expand or give you advice on anything if you would like so feel free to pm. I have been racing for the last 6 years.
Edit* Also, no tredmill running It is one thing that it is horrible for your running form and causes injuries and another is that it does half of your stride for you. It is such a ripoff way to work out.

Running is the best way to get a nice lean bod. I used to run, but my knees never let me make it a regular thing. Who designed those things, anyways?

We are born for distance running. Humans (homo sapiens) are the most efficient distance running mammal source. We are born to run, it is how our ancestors survived, long distance chase hunting in the heat during Pangaea around the equator. We can sweat, other mammals cannot. Out bodies have then evolved over thousands? if not more, years to have the best bio mechanics for distance running.

I ran track/cross country until I was a sophomore at which point I stopped completely. I'm planning on getting into a jogging routine again this spring, but cycling is so much more fun imo

I'm not too happy with the nipple design either.

I'm going to start jogging again when it warms up.
They don't plow where I live... at all. Only the main road. I live off a few side roads. Also, I kind of live in a "Vally" If you were to look left, right, and north, it's all up hill. and to the south of me is the lake.
So when I start jogging I'll be doing it all uphill. I imagine I'll get in pretty damn good shape by the end of spring.

The sizing is a little weird. I'm right between sizes so I have a pair that is a little tight but incredibly comfortable. I've never had foot pain after wearing those even when standing and dancing for hours on end. It seems like if you get ones that fit correctly the arch support is great, imo.

Man I remember when I experienced my first runners high when I was 17. A couple of my buddies and I use to go running every night and me and my buddy took a bet who could win the race home. I pushed myself so hard afterwards I felt soooo high like I was on MDMA! It was nuts. I've only had it happen a few times since then but wow its actually astounding. Its no surprise that heroin addicts turn to running to help with endorphins. I assume if you run cross country or something it happens more often but I don't like to run that much it puts a lot of stress on my knees.
