Pressure Cooker Steam

OK to speed things along I want to manually let the steam out of my PC to speed to cooling process. Does anyone see a problem with this? Letting the PC depressurize by itself would take forever, so this is why I want to manually do this. Any input would help. Thanks!

let it go by itself.. you might crack some jars or cause a boil over. or worse yet hurt yourself/burn with steam..
let is cool down by itself.. it will only take 20 minutes.

Well the thing is time is not on my side. I want to innoculate all the jars today. I have done this before and all the jars were fine. They never cracked either, and I never got burned by any steam. So if I don't have to worry about these things, is there any other reason not to do it? Thanks...

Quick temp changes are a bad thing for the metal on you PC...
the extra time taken to cool off provides more time for your jars to properly sterilize.
The instruction manual from your PC probably recommends you let it cool down properly.
20 minutes can't be that bad.... really.
don't inject thoser jars before they properly cool down!!!!!!!!

technically... you could pour cold water from the tap on the lid to help it cool off faster.. etc etc etc...... but why rush it!.. enjoy the hobby.

mighty u said it aint happened yet try useing tin foil for ur lid with the screw on band and p/c a jar and let the air out like that and see what happens thats just a minor simulation of what can really happen. it will hurt bad if that thing expload. 20 min like poop says it good enough. and yeah that cool down time is still working to sterlize the jars. i woulsnt mess with p/c

Yeah 20 minutes aint bad but 20 X 8 = 160 minutes or almost 3 hours, which is just too much time! I need to do all this in one day. And I know not to innoculate until the jars are completely cool. Which leads me to another question. If I have the jars in the fridge, would they be too cold to innoculate? I don't think so, seeing as some people recommend putting jars in the fridge to help them pin.

Also a lot of moisture can be lost from the cakes if you do this, put some water in a jar and depressurize fast, most of the water in those jars will vaporize out, but if you let it cool down properly you wont get the massive water loss.

If you vent the steam, the water in your jars will boil as the pressure drops and you'll end up with dry substrate. Think about it... water at sea level pressure cannot exist in its liquid state hotter than 212F. The water in your jars is at 250F when the time is up. Venting the steam will quickly drop the pressure to sea level and the hot water in your jars will vaporize. Rapid venting can also crack your jars.
Some people swear by rapid venting, but I'd suggest you just let it sit. The jars will be too hot to inoculate for at least several hours anyway.

Should be. Knock 'em up and see if they grow.
Good luck!
