Australia - panaleous cyanescens?
    #17464560 - 12/29/12 01:52 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I found these mushrooms growing from cow dung in Gold coast, australia. There were many of them in the field. This area is known for growing lots of actives - which I understand are generally either p. cyanescens or 'gold tops' - p. cubensis.

Unfortunately my phone had died before I could take a photo when I picked them. They were a fairly pure white, with some small tan in the middle of the cap, and quite small, compared to cubensis mushrooms. The gills were dark. There was a very slight dark outline to the cap on some of the more mature mushrooms, however most were fairly new. I have a picture of the partially dried shrooms, however I doubt it will be very useful.

I have looked up if there are any lookalikes in australia and the only thing I could find similar in Australia was the panaleous antillarum, but I think these mushrooms are too small to be that species.

Can anybody give me any pointers on whether these might be safe to eat? I suspect I won't be able to be sure and thus may have to throw them away, however I would like a second opinion or a few first.

Looks like Panaeolus antillarum to me.  Check to see if they are bruising blue where damaged.
