So a pretty good torrent tracker called Scenetime is having open registration for a few days.
Sign up while you still can.

I don't understand why signing up for these sites are in such high demand...you don't need an account at places like the pirate bay or kickass torrents which are pretty good torrent sites...maybe I'm a noob and missing something big?

Semi-private and private trackers tend to have less bullshit on them. That's why I use them anyways.
If you don't mind wading through all the fake files or mislabeled trash, there's really no reason to not use TPB or KAT or something..

Good signup sites have extremely consistent high-quality torrents. If you have a fast enough connection you can download at absurd speeds. I commonly reach 3.0 M/S on private trackers.
Thanks for the heads-up OP.

Yeah, I definitely use and appreciate TPB, but in the past I've had to be a little careful using it and weed out some bullshit/faulty stuff. Speaking of which, I just got an '09 macbook after my PC of 7 years finally gave out. I'm definitely downloading the new Mountain Lion system tomorrow(/today) but this is my first actual MAC. I downlaoded a torrent program(Utorrent and TPB) I've used on PCs and it's working just fine but if anyone has any tips or programs that work particularly well with macs I'd really appreciate it!

Well when I use sites the pirate bay, my ISP sends me threatening messages about copyright infringement and all that jazz. I haven't had that problem on private trackers.

Weird now it's normal. When I clicked Sign Up earlier it took me to a page asking for my email address and the only button you could click said Donate! clicking that took me to PayPal asking for $6.
EDIT: Shit this is one of those sites that requires a positive ratio. Fuck. My internet speed is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too slow for that. I'll just keep leeching off of public trackers until I get faster internet. I have 3MB down/500KB up speed and if I'm uploading at max it literally kills any download speed. Like if I'm uploading at 500, any webpage I try and visit just comes up with a connection error. If it's uploading at half that, a page like The Pub takes minutes to load. Sucks.
