how long before the jars colonize and you move them into the growing chamber can the cakes survive? so how long can the cakes last after fully colonized before birthing?

why do all newbies ask how long?

well what will you be using for a substrate?brf takes a bit longer to colonize then whole grain such as wheat, and rye because they can be shaken up to spread the mycelium around so it can colonize quicker.

what size jars will you be using?of course 1/2 pints will colonize that faster then a 1pint jar ot 1qt jar.

yeah of course a cake can servive in a growing chamber that is what they are for to keep them alive and to give them a good invroment to grow in.

when a substrate(cake) briths a batch of mushrooms this is known as a "flush" and you will get about 3 or so flushes for each cake if they are give a good invroment they will keep flushing till all the nutrients are spent.

you should read the FAQ's for more info

Did you read his post? He wants to know how long he can keep fully colonized jars before birthing them. I think I have heard Anno say they can last in the fridge for a month or so.

My friend has kept fully colonized BRF jars and WBS jars in the fridge for months before casing and fruiting. He's had some oyster spawn in there for six months, but he's not sure if it's still good.

They can eventually die from their own waste products. I don't know how much refrigeration retards this but if you start seeing yellowish fluids, that is what I am talking about.
