well i was wondering if after the jars fully colonize, if you put the cakes right onto the perlite if that's okay? is it totally necessary to put the cake onto tin foil and then onto perlite?

you can set them on the perlite if you want you don't have to but what I do is take out the top dry layer of verm I put in the jars over they BRF/verm mix and put it in the cap/top of the jar and then add some hydrogen peroxide to it then set the cake on that(top of jar) then put it on the perlite and yeah you can use tin foil if you want too aswell

"Put wet VERMICULITE on the tinfoil and place the cake on top of that. then PLace more wet VERMICULITE on top of the cake and THEN place it on the PERLITE!!!"

Seriously? I've just gone the route of birthing them onto the jar cap, and placing that on the perlite. Why do you put verm on bottom and top?

The moist verm adds moisture to the cake as well, as providing more pinning points.

"you can set them on the pearlight i have found that the bottem that is sitting on the pearlight fruts quicker"

Wouldn't that open the cakes up to contamination alot more easily? I know about putting a little hydrogen peroxide in with the moistened perlite to help prevent contamination an all, but thought that putting cakes directly onto the perlite was a no-no...(not that I'm challenging the idea or anything, just kinda curious:)

"The moist verm adds moisture to the cake as well, as providing more pinning points."

Hmmm, I guess that would be advantageous as well if you were having trouble maintaining high humidity in the terrarium/chamber. How does it provide more pinning points (again, not challenging the idea, just kinda curious)?

LiL_KuSsH, that's a great avatar, by the way, did you do that yourself, or is it something?

Well the humidity isn't necessarily going to soak into the cake like a big 'ol pile of verm will. As far as pinning points go, I don't really know. Just what I have read over and over. It would seem the uneven surface would have something to do with it.
