Modified SGFC

RR's SGFC calls for holes on all 6 sides of the tub, the holes on the bottom have been made particularly important, because it is what allows air to flow UP through the perlite and create humidity. I have had a problem with the holes on the bottom letting perlite fall through, and leak water through the bottom of my SGFC. I also admit that i dont raise my SGFC enough like everyone seems to advise.
The purpose of this diagram is to allow air to flow up through the perlite with ease, and i can rehydrade the perlite as much as i want with minimal mess ( All you have to do is drain the water out of the holes on the bottom of the bucket )
My main concern is that all of the fresh air the cakes received would be humid because it has to flow through the perlite first... The SGFC allows Fresh air to enter the tub from all directions, would adding more holes above the cakes on the side of the bucket be sufficient?
I apologize for the ghetto diagram, but i really do like this idea. What do you guys think?

The problem of all the air coming up through the perlite isn't a problem, it's an advantage if anything (humid fresh air is still fresh air).
Your problem is going to be with FAE, drilling the sides will help, but I'd be willing to bet it won't perform as well as a true SGFC.
Why not drill smaller holes on the bottom (and more of them)? Or lay mesh down on the base of the SGFC before putting perlite on top? You shouldn't have a problem with water draining through - once you've wet your perlite let it drain, it shouldn't drip or leak if drained correctly.
tl:dr - Your logic seems sound, but practically you probably won't achieve the performance of the SGFC.

There is a reason that this tek is suggested so often, because it works and it works well. Stick to the tried and true tek and you will be ok.

When I was a neophyte I tried all sorts of crazy SGFC mods. Can you guess which one I settled on?

Makes sense i went ahead and decided just to drill more holes in the bottom of my SGFC (there honestly is only a few holes on the bottom) i picked up a few metal splatter screens to put under the perlite, and over the holes.
You guys are right, why fix what isnt broken. Im only coming up with cooky versions of a SGFC because i cant help myself but to try and come up with my own method, ill stop trying to edit existing methods.
Maybe go back to research, i have been winging everything ever since the first success.

Why Do I see a Post every damn month in which someone tries or wants to modify a SGFC!!!! Even if you have a masters in engineering it's worthless effort to change something that is not broken !!!
Cyn
P.S Op raise your sgfc
