casing q's
    #1745096 - 07/24/03 05:25 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

recently i tried the cranberry extraction with 4 fully colonized cakes- i didnt feel anything so i figured it didnt extract the shit from the cake- i even used the wrong cranberry juice, i wrapped up the crumbled cakes inaluminum foil and put them up while i went out of town for ten days, i came home and unwrapped them to find little mushrooms growing- so i cased the cakes with vermiculite- its been over 24 hours and i couldnt see the mycelium poking through so i took off the casing layer -should i go ahead and put it in the terrarium and let them grow from the crumbled cake or wait?

I would say to spray with a 10:1 ratio of water:H2o2, this will reduce contam chances and give it a drink.

could the cakes being shaken in cranberry juice kill the mycelium?

Well i dunno, i would imagine its just like when you shake jars of corn spawn, the mycellium get seperated but then grows back together even stronger...it seems to be pretty sturdy stuff, so i doubt it would "kill" it...maybe wound it, but then again i dont know shit about cranberry juice extraction.

I doubt it, if mushrooms and grow INSIDE of 1/2 pint jars and push their way around that i dont think vermiculite will stand in their way!
