casing tubs 101

when i started my first casing, i didn't know what sized tub to get. now i have quite a collection. you can find them on the street, in supermarkets, second hand shops, petshops, DIY shops..anywhere. the wine glass is in the pics for size comparison.

the smallest one was from a supermarket (it had mushrooms in!); next up is from my work's catering dept where it contained vegetables. the green one was found on the street in a skip, and the biggest and best was ?4 in a DIY shop (paint mixing tub).
i used the smallest one for two half-pints. the other three are all used for 'bulk' (mycelium mixed in with pasteurised straw/poo). the idea is to get a casing tub that is
1. black, or as black as possible 2. rigid, so it doesn't warp when you pick it up 3. sterilisable, i.e. no rough surfaces or chemical stains. 4. deep enough to give big fruits, but enough headroom for shrooms to grow. 5. cheap, or free
hope this helped someone. shirl
p.s. i just rescued tinkerbell, our half-persian cat from a hole in the ground in a derelict building next door and 2 floors below, involving spiderman-like wall-climbing antics! scratched and bloody but proud of my success, shirley smiles

I think Shirely said she found it on the street in a skip. I am thinking it is a trash container but I am not too sure so I had to ask.
