    #1743412 - 07/24/03 02:15 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

i am just asking out of curiosity:

has anyone ever had a san pedro that tasted as bitter as peyote?

i rescently got a guestion from a friend who has a cactus this bitter and it seems rather odd. i've never tasted one even close.

If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

As mescaline has a strong bitter taste itself, some would hypothesize that the taste of peyote reflects it's high mescaline content. If your friends San Pedro is equally as bitter then rejoice in the bitter sweet sympony of mescalines loving embrace.

i doubt that it works quite as nice as that, as there are many harsh alkaline compounds in these cacti, aside from the active ones.

my friend made a rather poor attempt at nan's pedro syrup witch bunred somewhat, further increasing the unpleasant taste. he was unable to swallow more that about a tablespoon of it with barely perceptable [possibly placeebo] elevation from baseline.

the cactus material used was supplied by me [intended for propagation, not consumption] to him and a mutual friend of ours.

you can see a picture of the tip cuttings from the specimens used in my other active thread in this forum if interested.

Any effect with about a tablespoon I think would be incredible. Also I believe 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenethylamine makes up about half of the alkaloid matrix in T. Pachanoi so maybe not quite so simple but significant. Also somebody I believe said "the bitter the better". It's been a good rule so far
