Does sclerotia formation on agar indicate desirable qualities?
    #17430925 - 12/22/12 03:14 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

For anyone who's grown out isolates of stone-forming P. species, I was wondering whether there is any correlation between stones forming on agar and the speed, readiness to form or other aspects of sclerotia-forming ability when introduced to grain?

If so, it helps me target desirable isolates with much less trial and error required, so I'd love to hear from anyone who's been there.

If you look, and do a post search I saw a post that Stonesun or Javadog put out and from what I remember off the post he had two isolates one made stones the other fruited. He inoculated off the one that fruited and it still made 40g in stones or something.

Hmmm, I've read StoneSun's thread a few times and didn't recall anything mentioning it, but I'll have to recheck it.  I'll search for Java's too, thanks.
