Niacinamide
    #1740300 - 07/23/03 01:11 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I was reading about vitamin stacks a while ago and remember seeing the term 'flushing' mentioned. I believe it was in reference to niacinamide.

What is flushing and at what doses does it occur.?

P.S. Is niacinamide likely to be usefull in treating social anxiety?

niacin causes you to turn all red and sweaty, some kids took it in my class when I was in high school, and it was the funniest thing ever, they were miserable. There are no-flush niacimides that dont cause this.

IT dosn't really help for social anxiety. I had to take like 5 a day to feel something.

No. It won't.

Many people used to take niacin before MG seed trips. There is no effect.

I think this rumour began with some scientific basis at least. Apparently niacin has been valueable in treating symptoms of schizophrenia in some cases.

Do you know of any mechanism of action of Niacin? Is it even centrally acting?

People think that if you just say the word "hallucinations" it explains everything you want it to explain and eventually whatever it is you can't explain will just go away. It's just a word,it doesn't explain anything...

googlesearchwords:
dr abram hoffer
niacin therapy
vitamin B3 & schizophrenia (one if his books)
niacin and lsd psychosis
orthomolecular psychiatry
megavitamin therapy
hoffer osmond diagnostic test
~
the niacin (nicotinic acid) form of vitamin B3 is more likely to cause the flushing effect --- due to dilation of capillaries in the skin --- than the niacinamide (nicotinic acid amide; nicotinamide) & inositol hexanicotinate forms...
~
may not work for every schitz or every tripper, but mos' def' something more than placebo effect is going on here...
