Can't see very well.  Are those fruiting bodies?

They're acually from the wild. I was doing an experiment for my mycology class to see if the dH20 extract vs. 95%Etoh extract from turkey tails exhibited greater antibacterial behavior of the two. My teacher said filtering the extract wouldn't be necessary so a day or two after I applied the extract onto the colonized agar containing E. coli to my suprise I saw little turkey tails growing in there! I then removed a section with no contamination and put it in a fresh agar plate and what you see there is the fruiting bodies.

Sorry for the small pics, I'll post the original larger pictures momentarily.

I had some Schizophyllum commune on agar that sort of looked like that, no fruiting bodies were ever had though, I was using sabouraud's agar though, which might not have been ideal for such a thing.

Thats because it probably is. Turkey tail does not produce coloration before the plate is colonized leading me to believe this is not turkey tail. It also has a lot of bacteria on the plate as well. A lot!

This is right before they start to turn brown.

Wait are you saying that this is probably S. commune? It does look similar.

Yea that's what he is saying. Not surprising being that it is the most common basidiomycete on the planet!

No , what I showed you is trametes. What you show us is a mess of bacteria with some fungus trying to grow.

Ok sorry for taking so long on the larger pictures. I hope these are better. Anyone else see the spiral shape it has taken on? Pretty neat:smile:

Looks pretty schizoid to me. But those cocci are making me cringe. It screams to be autoclaved.
