Tinder Conk Fabric?

Have you seen these cool amadou hats?:

They are apparently made out of fabric made from the "tinder conk", Fomes fomenatarius, or "amadou". Does anyone have instructions on how to make fabric and hats out of these mushrooms? There are plenty of them in my area, I would love to sport a rad 'shroom hat like Paul Stamets.

Yes! do some googling I saw a site awhile ago that explained how to seperate the correct layer and beat it out like a sheet of felt.

Yeah, the procedure really didnt sound that difficult. I believe Stamets mentions first boiling the conks and pounding them out for using their fibers.

I'm sure this would take some open-minded humble approach but it sounds like fun to me!!! :gethigh:

That's awesome! I always wanted some tinder conks but you can't find them around where I'm at unfortunately. Not enough hardwood trees. :frown:
