Nuclear Mycelium Technique
    #17420670 - 12/20/12 05:59 AM (12 years, 30 days ago)

Hi guys! I apologise in advance for mistakes, English is not my native language.
I have developed a fascinating technique for growing strong mycelium. It will be extremely useful for those who are not able to grow fruiting bodies (maybe too lazy or need to hide shrooms from other family members or don't have money or space for all devices). It is known that you can eat mycelium in this case, however, there haven't been any recommendations about how to make mycelium strong enough if you grow it for this purposes until now. So, here is an extremely simple and cheap technique that will make your mycelium really nuclear! Four tablespoons of colonized grain will be enough for a rather deep trip.

Nuclear Mycelium Technique (NM-Tek)

You will need:
- All requisites for growing mycelium in bags or in jars (bags are better for our purposes);
- Rubber gloves;
- A bowl;
- Polyethylene bags;
- A knife or scissors;
- Alcohol;
- Two to three weeks.

Step by step guide:

1) Grow mycelium on buckwheat, wheat, rye or similar (something like corn or millet is a bad choice because of inappropriate size of seeds) like it is done usually, but with the following modifications:
- Keep the temperature below 25 degrees Celsius (20 degrees or lower is recommended). The fungus will grow slower but get stronger.
- Increase Air exchange (make bigger holes in the jars' caps or in the bags and cover them with wadding filters that are not too dense or too thick). This may increase contamination probability a bit but will also improve the amount of psilocybin in your mycelium.
- Don't make substrate too moist; mycelium grows denser if the grain is a bit dry.

2) When the substrate is colonized, contamination is not likely to happen, and it's time to put on rubber gloves, open the bag or the jar and take the cake out of it. Do it gently, try not to damage seeds because it will open uncolonized areas for contamination.

3) Carefully crumble the cake into individual colonized seeds, putting them in the bowl (you have just sterilized it with alcohol, haven't you?). Remember not to damage seeds and not to tear mycelium off the substrate. However, few mistakes aren't too dangerous.

4) When separated entire cake into individual seeds, put the damaged mycelium in a polyethylene bag and tie it (not too tight, you will need to open it soon).

5) After that take scissors and make small holes over the entire surface of the bag (you need a few holes on the bottom too). There should be enough holes for a satisfying air exchange but you don't want your mycelium to dry up too soon.

6) Leave the bag in a dark cool (lower than 25 degrees Celsius) place for about five days. It will recovery from stress and start growing again, filling the space between seeds. So, a new layer of mycelium appears and a new dose of psilocybin is produced.

7) After mycelium has recovered, you can repeat the previous procedure for several times and get more layers of mycelium and more psilocybin in them. You may continue doing that until mycelium dries up, and it will get stronger and stronger. 3-4 shreddings are enough to make it really nuclear.
Damaged mycelium:

Recovered mycelium:

8) When recovered from the last damage, mycelium is ready to consume. You may eat it with honey or make tea. Remember that it may turn out to be really strong (last time i tried about 50 grams and it felt equivalent to at least 30 grams of fresh fruits)

Here are some explanations.
Several experiments, observations and stupid mistakes in my practice resulted in understanding that there are certain conditions that are very important for producing psilocybin and psilocin in mycelium and fruiting bodies. You should take them into consideration if you want them to be strong.
These conditions are the following:
1) Fresh air. Mycelium itself can survive severe oxygen starvation, however, if the air exchange is insufficient, mycelium or fruits will contain poor amounts of substances we are interested in. Conversely, the more fresh air, the better is psilocybin production.
2) Temperature. Mycelium grows faster in warmth, but increasing temperature up to 30 degrees Celsius and higher makes your mycelium or shrooms extremely weak. Also, mycelium that grows fast consumes oxygen too quickly, and that leads to oxygen starvation. Keep temperature low and let fungus grow slowly and become strong...
3) Growth. Mycelium produces magic compounds only while it grows.
Thereby, our task is to make mycelium grow constantly in the coolness with a good air exchange. NM-Tek is the simplest solution of this task.

That's all, thank you for attention and wish you a good trip.

ive made tea with substrates before but what i've found is the mycellium is a lot stronger after the sub has already fruited. If it hasn't produced fruit yet its weaksauss but still works

Seriously what he said.

Are the enzymes it secretes safe for consumption, ever see what they do to aluminum trays?

I have been eating it rather often for a year. No holes in my stomach... so far)))
Stomach should be immune for the enzymes like to it's own gastric juice, I suppose. A lot of people eat mycelium and survive.
However, it really might have some adverse effects on your health, I don't know.:confused:

You could just case the grains and fruit in the bag if you're going to do all this work for some nasty mycelium.

I've done this using nothing but some field capacity organic pasta.
It colonized fast and tastes pretty good actually.
If you want a quick trip there is no faster way. That's the only practical use I see.

Sounds like I should start drying out uncontaminated spent straw based substrates, grind to powder and make chocolates instead of chucking them, but I don't know about wasting fresh mycelium like this, to each is own

Sorry for reviving such an old topic, but does anyone have some more experience to share regarding this tek, or similar ones? I plan to do some tests myself in the following weeks.

Although I realize that it is much more efficient to grow fruits, or at least grow a sclerotia producing species, the possibility of getting useful amounts of actives from P. Cubensis mycelium is surely pretty interesting for anyone who considers stealth important and anyone who trips rather occasionally. The availability of P. Cubensis prints and the ease of growing fruits and making new prints is also a benefit of this species.

There's a report on Erowid detailing someone consuming mycelium and getting a nice trip out of it, I'll see if I can dig it up

If you wanna do all that just use whole brown rice and make a cake. At least that way its not quite as nasty.

I must have been busy last year and missed this one.

Eat mushrooms, not substrate.
