True.. but it depends heavily on the game and the resolution. Never said more VRAM = more FPS :p I've seen some games easily capable of hitting 2.5-2.7GB VRAM on Ultra settings.. although usually on multiple monitors or really high resolutions. Most people on a single 1080p have no need for more than 2GB, but that could change in the future

I haven't exceeded 2GB yet on a single 1440p monitor even with high res texture packs on a bunch of games, but haven't really screwed with 3rd party texture mods. I'm sure it can be done though.

Yeah like I said, it's usually with Surround on multiple monitors you have to worry, but I've seen some games can do it on a single monitor. heavy modded Skyrim with HD texture mods in particular, can easily hit 3GB. Shogun 2 is another one I have seen do it. Also Crysis2 with AA / view distance maxed out. Most games are fine though, and as long as you don't go crazy on the settings you are usually fine, most games will usually never cap over 1.5-1.7gb

Can you refresh me as to what exactly happens when your game wants to use more vram than you have? Does your FPS tank hard? Or is it more of an occasional stutter when you encounter places in the game where textures aren't cached?

Yeah... ~usually~... you'll just see a massive FPS drop. Like you'll be putzing around at 60 FPS and all of a sudden it tanks to 5-10, severe lag. You might also see shuffling or stuttering with the game trying to catch up, or the game might just crash. Some games will give you an error that it ran out of VRAM. Most games won't, you'd just see a major performance hit.

most games wont even run .. i mean how can the game use 1.5gb when only 1.0 exists? they either crash or will not run.. or start caching so hard it might as well be crashed lol

i'm not sure games immediately use 2gb (or w/e) in all cases, from what i've monitored with gpuz (i haven't been gaming in awhile so is all a bit fuzzy) it seems like they'll slowly start to use more vram and cache more textures... then you'll load up a new part of the game and it will release it and will go back to a lower amount and so on.
