I didn't see that one coming.
If silver is going down how do you still promote is as the best fundamental long term investment you could get your hands on? Because right now I'd trust precious metals over the dollar any day but my question is, why did the stock drop? And aren't the stocks broken down into different companies as different providers of silver or silver just pooled together as one big stock option and one ticker to buy in on? I'm not very knowledgeable about public stock.
I would much prefer to save enough and instead of buying a bond, find a way to purchase and own a silver bar that if I wanted to I could even have sent to me. Instead of course of investing currency into a public company that owns silver. I don't want a piece of the company, I want a piece of the silver. I'd never buy silver and actually try and receive it physically I'd leave it in the reserve but I still wouldn't mind outright OWNING a silver bar.

Nice couple of dollar drop over the last week or so. I don't think I'll be able to buy any more on this dip. Maybe a little, but oh well. I'm not worried.

Its hinging on this "fiscal cliff" thing
more austerity & less government spending = stronger dollar / weaker metals
I dont believe they are going to stop inflating though.

The "fiscal cliff" is a BS excuse for the sell off (from the financial media) ,it's pure market manipulation.
If the market really thought "more austerity and less government spending = stronger dollar." Then stocks would be getting killed, they have not, bonds would be trading higher, they have not, and the dollar would be moving higher, it has not.

Nice I plan to keep stacking regardless of price unless its like 100 an ounce or something and then sell only a small amount in an emergency.

I totally agree with you that the fiscal cliff is BS.
I dont think they are going to slow down inflation, but i think the fiscal cliff is in part to create the illusion to the market that they might.
They will probably decide put more austerity on the people while increasing spending.

If there was some kind of deflationary event, holding dollars instead of silver might be a good idea as long as the currency is still functioning.
for example if government cut spending and/or interest rates went up a few % it might be a time to sell for dollars.
my point is that there are some situations where you should want to sell your silver in order to catch n economic drift on the other side of the trade.
in some situations it's smart to hold dollars instead of silver, it can be more risky, but it all depends on the situation.

So what is your average cost? Are you like my friend who started buying at 30 then kept buying up to 50 because silver surely would be hitting 100 soon? The dollar weak AND silver weak makes for a good buying opportunity. 26 has been strong support if it breaks that wow 18 on the way. JPM can make it dance circles on the head of a pin if it wants. SLV and all the leverage associated with it may hurt them at times but at other times just another way to fleece all the silver bugs. If you are selling silver to pay bills you CLEARLY bought too much silver.

I had a massive collection as a child and inherited a lot. I'm getting rid of most of my childhood collection and hanging onto my grandfather's and my father's.
I'm using it to pay bills because I've fallen on hard times.
Thanks for assuming how I went about acquiring this and failing at making me look like an idiot.
Congrats, you've won fucktard of this thread award.
edit - opt out, LOL

Thanks for the link.
At this juncture I think I'm better off selling my truck for 3k than 100oz of silver.
Or buying 100 more...

Congress is still deadlocked looks like we are sailing over the ciff ladies and gentlemen. Buy silver now while its cheap and the sellers still take worthless paper.

Short of 60-80 Washington quarters and 20x 40% Clad JFK half dollars, I'm done selling my silver.
I've already gone below my $500 Face Value safety net - not by a ton - but enough. Time to put all the nice pieces in holders and tuck em away.
Outside of precious metals, what are your guys opinions on numismatic value?
I can take a half dozen of my coins right now and be holding almost $10,000.
It only makes sense to sell the rare coins and invest in bars, right?
Six coins or 325 troy oz bars...

My impression as fucktard of the thread my be misconscrewed.
Really though, it seems numismatic value means literally nothing to the bullion dealers. They will pay me the same for my 1 oz Proof Pandas or my 1 oz mixed date American Eagles. Then there are the con dealers who charge a lot for a coin and con people into selling them other coins cheap. Not sure what their normal "spread" is but suspect it's like a pawn shop. Let the ignorance and desperation of the seller determine the price. So they end up with inherited coins going cheap. The shows on TV always sell numismatic value at big premiums maybe they buy these coin dealer conned coins.
So not much of an answer I know that's why you need to do your own homework! Maybe coin shows? Perhaps E Bay?
Personally, I don't like the silver bars much. They represent potential fraud although the old ones are cool and Englehard or Johnson Mathey recognizable enough for dealers to buy from you. But what are we really talking about with silver and why you need it?
1. Protect against inflation 2. Protect against disaster/financial disaster
The best way to hold silver is IMO
1. "Junk" 90% silver U.S. coins in bags. 2. Canadian maple leafs 3. American eagles
If things get really bad the best way by far is junk silver coins. You want something impossible to fake, recognizable, and in small enough denominations to be easily traded. Dimes!
Holding coins for numismatic gain may work great in the good times, but here again it's finding that coin cheap and finding that buyer to pay dearly that is concerning. And in the bad times it will fade very fast.
I like the Canadian Maple Leafs absolutely the most. Recognizable, high purity, 1 oz., nice coins with "low" mark up per coin, and best of all denominated in Canadian currency and $5. Might not seem like much but compared to Eagles denominated in USD at $1 seems worth it to me. The only edge with the eagles is they are considered legal tender which could be worth a lot depending on what "happens".
