I estimate 1.5 inches substrate depth...all you need is 1/2 inch of a bottom and top layer, it doesn't take much.

area of base = 107 sq inches.
volume of half pint = xxx cubic inches.

tell us xxx, and divide it by 107 = the depth in inches.
i think

tell us again in cm, and it'll be easy. 1/2 pint = 277cc

it's about 650/277 = 2.3cm, just under an inch. get a smaller tub so it can be deeper.

1/2 pint = 14.4375 in^3

3 * (1/2 pint) = 43.3125 in^3

area of container = 11.625" * 9.25" = 107.5 in^2

depth of substrate = 43.3125 in^3/107.5 in^2 = 0.402 in = 1 cm depth

true, true. he's right - i forgot to multiply by three cakes. in cm that makes it about 650/825 = 0.8cm thin.

fuck this maths is hard   that took me ages staring at it, and i'm still not confident. listen to horseman.
