Picking in the NorthWest / Seattle Area
    #1740229 - 07/23/03 12:29 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I'm relatively new to picking and am 100% comfortable identifying, picking, and eating Psilocybe cyanescens but would really like to start being able to come back with more than just a single species..

I live in Seattle and would like to pick mushrooms all year round but cyanescens can only be found in the fall months (to my knowledge) - what other types of mushrooms can i find around here and what time of the year? Can i find mushrooms during the summer -> that would be great!

ps.. this is my first Post to the site and I'm happy to have found this haven of hallucination

It's not worth it... You just have to wait for fall and spring becuase those are the best and imo only seasons to pick up here in the Northwest...

you should be able to find blue-ringers [P.stuntzi] during a soemwhat broader season if the weather permits.

you might also have some luck finding Pan. subbalteatus, Gymnopilus species [G. spectabilis, G. luteifolius, etc].

you should note that none of these species are verry potent but it's always fun to pick and identify a new mushroom, esp. if it has magic about it.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
