I can just pirate them, that doesn't hold much weight for me. I just want good hardware.
Too true. Don't bother investing in software till you have your hardware situation secured.

I never pirated any software exept for ableton, reason and waves plugin. and even then I paid a guy to give it to me and install it
I tried to pirate spectrasonic's Trilogy but it was such an hassle I decided I'd buy it one day, now that I have the cash it's discontinued

I used a Tascam US-1641 for my 3 albums I released
Really solid machine (it comes with Cubase LE which is not so solid. I guess you've got to pay for reliability with their non-le versions of the software. Cubase le crashed on me so fuckin much though)

I use a behringer mixer into the soundcard. RCA plugs into 1/8 jack for the computer input. Works for everything but I use Ableton Live.
The mixer is cool because it has multiple inputs & EQ settings. Also, I can go either direct from amp or pedals, as well as live mic with a nice condenser.
Studio nights are great fun! Shred on dude.

I just checked ebay and found that my audio interface goes for 200$
m-audio delta 1010 for 200$
I paid 400$ for that and I'm pretty satisfied, I do a lot of recording since most of my sound comes from samples. I play some synth too and never noticed any latency. it gots more in and out than I could ever need. I never tought to mention it but at 200$ it's right in your price and it's PCI so if USB is the source of your noise you'll be set. I don't get much noise, when I record "blank" I can't hear or see anything in the audio editor and that's taking into account the noise from my turntable and the phono amp.

I have owned m-audio spekers, keyboards, and sound cards. I have since upgraded all after being severely disappointed.

PCI is also totally dead, I don't even think I have one on my mobo. PCI-E or bust.

I have/had an m-audio; soundcard(delta 1010), pre-amp(DMP3), mic(Luna) and midi controller(axiom 61) and all have been of great quality.
I'm yet to feel like replacing anything

Pretty much... they're like Avid/Digidesign's consumer/lower end gear brand... Models before the buyout I think were a little higher quality.
Mbox2 treated me extremely well, but the fast-track was a horrid piece of shit
