I re-read a few Lovecraft stories from a collection I have.
The Colour Out Of SpaceIt was a scene from a vision of Fuseli, and over all the rest reigned that riot of luminous amorphousness, that alien and undimensioned rainbow of cryptic poison from the well—seething, feeling, lapping, reaching, scintillating, straining, and malignly bubbling in its cosmic and unrecognisable chromaticism The Shadow Out Of TimeThere was a hideous fall through incalculable leagues of viscous, sentient darkness, and a babel of noises utterly alien to all that we know of the Earth and its organic life. Dormant, rudimentary senses seemed to start into vitality within me, telling of pits and voids peopled by floating horrors and leading to sunless crags and oceans and teeming cities of windowless, basalt towers upon which no light ever shone The Call Of CthulhuPh'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn The OutsiderFor although nepenthe has calmed me, I know always that I am an outsider; a stranger in this century and among those who are still men. This I have known ever since I stretched out my fingers to the abomination within the great gilded frame; stretched out my fingers and touched a cold and unyielding surface of polished glass I'm also reading a story of his that I've never read before titled At The Mountains Of Madness. I shiver with anticipation.

dude...i love lovecraft. mountains of madness is probably the best!
its really weird when he occasionally says the line "the geometry was all wrong"
it really stretches the mind to consider it

Have you ever had to graph in non-Cartesian coordinate systems?

here's a good one
Possibly Gilman ought not to have studied so hard. Non-Euclidean calculus and quantum physics are enough to stretch any brain, and when one mixes them with folklore, and tries to trace a strange background of multi-dimensional reality behind the ghoulish hints of the Gothic tales and the wild whispers of the chimney-corner, one can hardly expect to be wholly free from mental tension.

His prose is mesmerizing. It seduces me into a dark undulating miasma of eldritch grotesquerie.

That sentence was supposed to conjure images of macabre horrors from the insane realms of foetid, gurgling doom spawn.
I fail as a writer.

…He had said that the geometry of the dream-place he saw was abnormal and loathsomely redolent of spheres and dimensions apart from ours…
…twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity…
…The rest followed him, and looked curiously at the immense carved door with the now familiar squid-dragon bas-relief…..they could not decide whether it lay flat like a trap door or slantwise like an outside cellar door…
..it moved anomalously in a diagonal way, so that all the rules of matter and perspective seemed upset…

…Johansen swears he was swallowed up by an angle of masonry that shouldn’t have been there; an angle which was acute, but behaved as if it were obtuse…

I've never read any Lovecraft stories, but it sounds like I need to get started.

Lovecraft is best coupled with the doom drones of Lustmord:
