birthday cakes how long????????

Its been about a month and none of the cakes have completly colonized yet. This isn't my first time at this but I think its never taken this long before anyone have any Idea's on this. used pf teck not the max fruiting formula but the one that was recomended by Dr.PF??????spore strain b+ and some free strain of the month from the little guy

Have you flipped them yet? Are they just not done on the bottoms? If so, flip them and give the lid a whack to jar the cake loose.

well their really only about 50% and some maybe little more but know sine of contamination just real slow growth

well what substrate did you use?if you used BRF(brown rice flour) the PF Tek and you you filled your jars if you packed the substrate down they will take longer to colonize.what temp do you have the incubator at?if it is too low or high this will slow down the growth of mycelium.how big are your jars?if you are using 1qt jars or bigger jars they take alot longer to colonize.

Very important to be in the right temp range. That was my problem with slow colonization.

My first 3 jars took about 1.5 months to completly colonize, my second three are about 50% at 1 week.

THe first jars were kept at about 70 deg and the second set are kept at 85.

I agree with GeckoKing. AFOAF has had very similar results. The double tub incubator was a godsend. The difference is huge between a fairly constant 80? and a totally constant 84?
