When you are colonizing substrate in the jars how much air..

How much air does the substrate need? Becuase right now I just poped a solid cap on the top and its not getting much of an air exchange... Is that bad?

the lid should have at least a couple holes...the size of a penny nail will do nicely...

Spawn Run:

Relative Humidity: 90%.

Substrate Temperature: 84-86 ?F. Thermal death limits have been established at 106?F.

Duration: 10-14 days.

CO2: 5000-10,000 ppm.

Fresh Air Exchanges: 0 per hour.

I have the jars air tight pretty much I have 4 holes in the lid that are covered with duct tape and the lid is screwed on snug and I never once had a problem.

Just don't pack the substrate too densely, then it should contain enough air for the mycelium to colonize fully. If you notice that colonization stops more or less abrubtly after some time, you could try unscrewing the lid for a couple of seconds to allow for some air exchange. However, I wouldn't recommend this, as it might introduce contaminants into your jars.

Yeah you can do that psilocybin monkey, but its not the best. Even though stamets says you need no air exchange, anyone who has tried using filter discs in a controlled manner can tell you that they work wonders. It really pays to give jars some air exchange after about 30-40% colonization.

I never used them before do they keep the humidity up high and do there ever dry out?
