PFTE Filter Bags for CNC Machines

Just a thought here, but I work at a machine shop and we use PFTE filter bags rated to .5um to filter all the crap out of the machine coolant. I was wondering if this is the same material per chance that the filter discs are made of and thus would allow me to cut one apart and make lids out of one for cheap (or free cause we go through them all the time). These bags are huge and only cost sometimes as low as $20. Hope some one will have more info for me. thanks.

They are similar to this.

if you have access to a supply there's one way to find out -- should be at least as good as the poly felt sheets if not a little less durable due to the thinness
polyester has a melting point near 260 C so no issues there

None of the synthetic filter discs I've bought from vendors are PTFE; you can tell by how they feel. They feel more like polyester to me (which maybe those bags are? The listing seems to say PTFE as well as polyster). They're also really thick, much thicker than those filter bags -- between maybe 1/16" and 1/8". They're supposed to provide 99.97% efficiency filtration down to 0.3 microns, as opposed to 0.5 microns.
So, no, it's not the same stuff as a synthetic filter disc.
That said, it'll still probably work for you, especially if you keep your jars in a clean and draft-free area. SFDs are the gold standard, but people succeed using all kinds of stuff as filters -- Tyvek, polyfill, dry vermiculite layers... And PTFE can handle high temperatures it should be autoclavable.
If I were you I'd still consider SFDs. It looks like that bag would probably make about 40 lids if you cut it up. At $20 a bag, you're paying maybe half of what you'd pay for real SFDs, which would require less work on your part, last essentially forever, and filter better.
