Should i put something between the pan and the substrate?

Should i put something between the pan and the substrate? such as Parlite or Vermiculite? if so how thick should the parlite or vermiculite be? or should i put nothing between them

And a nother question is how thick should my lare of substrate be and dont say faq's please just looking for a mesurment

Alright, I'o assume alot of stuff... I am assuming that your casing the cakes. If you are doing that, then a layer of anything between the casing container and the substrate is not really necessary. You could put a little moist verm in there if you want but you don't have to... it's just personal opinion.

yes im casing and im using the PF casing method a thin layer of moist verm sounds good il do that

how thick should my lare of casing mix be ontop of the substrate? i was thinking about a half inch

1/2 inch of casing is good, also I agree with the verm idea. I always put moist verm at the bottom of my casings - can't do any harm and the moisture gain makes it worthwhile.

actually it could introduce contams but if you sterilize in the microwave first you should be a'ight

no prob.  it seems just ~looking~ at your casings can introduce contams tho  :stoned:

I like to double end case (casing on top and bottom), I have had good success doing it that way. Make sure whatever you do to put the casing in the microwave and sterilize it. I put my casing in for 5 minutes and let cool off, haven't had a prob yet **knocks on wood**
