Picking em young = more potency?
    #1736434 - 07/21/03 11:00 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Lets say someone had a cake that has nutrients and water to grow X ammount of fruits. Now some have said that young fruits have more potency. If on that cake the fruits were removed at a small size, would the cake produce close to the same weight in total fruits as if you let them mature? Granted, you would have smaller fruits, but would you get enough more of them to make up for it? Or is the optimal time to pick right before the veil breaks? I'm thinking if you pick em halfway through their development, the cake will send the nutrients to the other pins. So instead of a couple big fruits, you get lots of little stumpy ones. Is this worth doing?

Pinning is kinda difficult for a cake. Simply growing is alot faster. Intresting thought though. Maybe over a much longer period of time, but prolly not.

no. mature fruits contain just as much as 'newly veil broken fruits'. a common misconception about mature vs. immature potency. you want to pick the fruits right as they mature so no energy is spent supporting the mushroom after it has stopped producing psychoactives. it is said they stop producing as much of the psychoactives when the veil tears. hard to explain...maybe someone better spoken than i can help.

Its my understanding that tiny immature fruits are more potent, by weight, then mature mushrooms. I dont know where I gained this information and it could be totally false. Though I do remember reading about it, the theory being that chemical production begins early and can outpace fruitbody size in the early stages of a mushrooms development. So a gram of little worm sized pins would be more potent then a gram of mature fruitbody. I dont know if this is true or not.
