Question about Quicker Colonization
    #1735901 - 07/21/03 07:36 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Hey guys. I have a question about a rumor I heard along the lines of quick colonization of a BRF/VERM substrate. I heard that you can take a piece of a fully colonized cake and place it in the center of your sterilized BRF/VERM substrate and that piece of cake will colonize that jar in apporx. 3-5 days. It sounds like it makes sense to me seeing as how you can break the cake up for casing and it will re-colonize in a pan. Let me know what you guys know about this. Thanks in advance.

Sure it would work, but you would have to be extremely sterile. Take sterilized brf/verm, throw about 5 in a large bag and then add 1 crumpled colonized cake. youll have a massive cake in a couple days.

Just one of those large bags that you would store things in em to put in a freezer thats sealable. Use it right out of the box and youll be fine.

That's not going to work, you are talking about a gran to grain transfer but with PF cakes. You should really investigate things like bulk grain growing and casing before you try that. You will need to set up a hepa flow hood to do a good grain to grain (cake to cake) transfer, go look at www.fungifun.org for good plans, they are very lucid and detailed. It will cost some $ though. You can try just adding some hydrogen peroxide... perhaps 5-7cc's per quart jar or substrate, that might kill any spores that enter it.

Usually 5 1/2 pint uncolonized sterilized brf/verm with 1 cake is good enough.
