Mycobag success/procedure question
    #1735648 - 07/21/03 06:24 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

This is my first post @ the shoomery, I have been a visitor your many years now, i am finally deciding (after much research, and some experimentation) that it is my time to grow  I love the idea of a pre-sterilized mixture seeing "my lacking a pressure cooker situation".
I have read many posts and understand the basic ideas of how much innoculate to use, to mix the bag, to keep it warm (80-90?).
Questions being...
once the spawn is optimally colonized could you break up the spawn then open the bag and pour it into jars or cups and compress it slightly to attempt to form it into a cake shape (would you need to let it sit for a little while to reform it's mycelium network in order to maintain it new "shape"?)?

OR

would i be better of just attempting to case it?

This is my first real attempt at this, but have studied a lot, but nothing replaces experience some i came to the pro's... :

Spawn it to poo/straw. IMO

Well, maybe not your first time. You could fruit it in the bag, I think.

i've only heard a little bit about "in-the-bag-fruiting"
wouldn't that be a mess, any FAQ's on this method, none that
i can find, any and all advice is greatly appreciated, i also gotta ditch that long-ass signature too...

Spawning to poo or straw or poo/straw is not that hard as long as you follow the TEK you are using closely. If you want to know more alls I can say is find the TEK on it. There's too much to cover in a post and you should really know it by heart before you try and even then I would suggest having a copy of the TEK close by for quick reference.

Basicaly to fruit in the bag you would move it to an environment suitable for fruiting and watch for shrooms. It's that simple. Yields would not be as good I believe as if you cased though. Definately not as good as spawning to poo/straw.

Don't try to form cakes... break it up and case it in coir & verm.

I am not sure I can help with anything. It may have been to your advantage to leave the bag intact.

Instructions from mycobag.com site

Instructions from Spore Works site

Interesting link (lots of good pictures)

Now that you have cakes there should be many here to help you bring them to fruition.
