Phoenix Crash Honey LC Tek * 2

Phoenix Crash Honey LC Tek

Ingredients:

4-5 pint jars
Either PolyFill lids or the fancy ones with rubber injection ports
Honey (the clearer, the better)
Distilled Water
Pot to boil water
Measuring Cup
Teaspoon Measuring Utensil (or just a plain damn teaspoon!)
Aluminum Foil
And, of course, a multi-spore syringe or some nice liquid culture (LC)

First, fill the pot 2/3 full with the distilled water and bring to a roiling boil for 25 minutes. While the water is still hot, fill your measuring cup up with 300mL of it and pour it into the pint jar.

Now, to add the honey. The most common way of measuring how much honey to add is: 1 tsp per every 100mL of water. It's better to add a little less than a little more here.

Stir the honey vigorously for about a minute and place the lid on. Repeat this same procedure for all the jars that you intend to use for LC (liquid culture).

Once you're done with that, it's time to cover the jar lids with aluminum foil and load them into a pot large enough to steam sterilize them. THAT'S RIGHT! NO PRESSURE COOKER REQUIRED! Be sure to line the bottom of your pot with old lid bands so that the jars don't crack from the heat.

Fill the pot with water until it reaches a little less than halfway up the sides of the jars. Turn your burner to a Med/High settings just to get the water hot. Once you open the lid and steam hits you in the face, turn the burner down to Med/Low. Start your timer at this point and allow the jars to be sterilize for around 25 minutes.

When the 25 minutes is up, simply cut off the burner and allow the jars to cool. After 10 minutes use a hand towel to grab the jars and swirl the liquid inside thoroughly. This helps to mix the honey and water mixture even better.

Allow the LC mixture to cool completely (roughly 8-9 hours) before attempting to inoculate with a LC or a MSS. Stir well to help distribute the spores/LC into the solution.

Incubate at the same temperatures that you would for growing mycelium (80-84 degrees Fahrenheit), and you should have a few jars of viable LC in roughly 10-12 days.

NOTE: Always test a new LC on a few jars before performing a mass inoculation.Contamination cannot usually be detected in liquid cultures. Would you rather lose 3-4 jars, or 24 jars just because you didn't TEST!

Just so any noobs want to know what good LC looks like:
It looks like a glob of cum floating in a jar of water. Hey.....I callz it like I seez it.

Good Luck

If my room hit 87 I would freak...thinking everythign died lol. I incubate at 80 and fruit at 75 (or as close to as I can be).

84F always works the best for ME. Definitely use whatever temps work best for you. To each his own. I will go back and alter the suggested temps.

But this is a tek that has NEVER failed me yet. I highly recommend it to every Shroomerite. Especially because it is very noob-friendly (so easy a child could do it, although I would never condone that!).

Try it out guys. If you like it...BE KIND, REWIND, AND LEAVE ME A RATING!!!

A very similar tek just got bumped recently that was written 2 years ago that didn't use a pressure cooker either... good thing cause these teks are exactly what I need right now.

here is the thread with pics

I thought about adding pics, but making LC is pretty much child's play. The only thing people might need to be taught about is how to make a lid with injection ports and EZ Felt (get it online at Dick Blick's), sealed up with RTV silicone (the clear kind works just as good as the high-temp, plus it looks alot better). Most LCs fail because of the lazy man's tyvek lids.
Here's a link to a tek very close to what I use: LC Lid Tek

Simply replace the Synthetic Filter Material with the EZ Felt. You'll need some 1/2" rubber injection ports and the clear RTV silicone.

Drill a 3/8" hole on one side of the jar lid (1/2" from the edge), and a 1/2" hole the same distance from the edge of the lid. Use the silicone to seal the rubber injection port into the 1/2" hole, and line the outer edge of the quarter-sized EZ Felt circles that will now be glued over the 3/8" hole in the lid. There should be no silicone blocking the hole in the lid, as this will completely prohibit GE (gas exchange), which will result in slow or even NO growth. Once the silicone has dried (usually leave it overnight), you're ready to do some shit!!!

Ya man, the more popularized version of this tek with pictures just got bumped... and I feel like its lacking. It doesn't say to stir the honey, which I found to be vital. I have non-stirred jars and they didn't do squat. So.... :bump:

I use real SFD's and a 1/4" inoculation port.
Use a hole punch to punch out a hole through both the lid and SFD at the same time so they line up, then make one more just in the lid.

The inoculation ports I use have a beveled bottom to them so they stay put when you put them into the hole...  Put it through the SFD and Lid, (makes a nice tight fit!) the other hole is for GE.  No need for silicone...

BTW... I DO sell and trade these if anyone wants me to make them some :hatsoff:

Imho, leaving SFD's whole is for grain transfer jars. If I'm making an LC or jar meant to inoculate, I'll split an SFD between 5-20 jars.

Here's my LC lids. I have a small piece of rubber hose that comes down, so my filter can't get wet when I swirl it. I like the idea of a longer hose that sticks out, so then you could bend or clamp the hose and not get it wet. I also want to try using the red heat-resistant silicone in place of the rubber injection ports, since rubber melts

This is from one of Agar's threads. I'm going to have to test out something like that for my LC's.

Looks like a solid tek

Just wanted to point out there isn't any reason to wait this long. When they're cool to the touch you can inoculate them. This will probably take closer to 1.5 to 2 hours. I've read in a few places that even if they're a bit warm it's still alright. Which would make sense. Thermal death of cubensis spores is a pretty high temperature.
