How much do you pay for grain?
    #17347313 - 12/06/12 10:09 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

What kind?  How much per pound?  How many pounds?

I'm paying $0.89 or $1.59 for rye, depending on whether I can get it at the first place.  Still haven't found anywhere that has it in bulk.

Yeah I tend to try and find the cheapest substrates to use, that being said I use wbs at around. .45c a pound. But getting sicks of the calcium additive. Might check out some local feed store prices for rye

About $11 for a 20lb bag of supermarket-brand WBS that is only milo, millet and sunflower seed.

Is it 100% seeds or does it have minerals added?

69 cents a pound for organic rye berries, bulk, at the health food store.

Man I can rip through them in a hurry.

I just stole a #120 lbs bag of organic wheat berries for $20.

Feed store is your best bet for bulk.

For some reason we don't have rye locally but

WBS, Milo(sorghum), Wheat lots of other stuff for about $15 for #50 lbs.

Rye/Winter rye from the surrounding feed stores is usually $16-18/bushel, which for rye is 56 pounds, so about $0.30/lb

Man I must have been stitched up good and proper! 5.5 pounds (2500g) for about 6 quid including shipping. They are the same ones RR uses (I dont mean same company) in LGM and organic, but still seems like I was ripped off judging by some of you.

Could have bought them much much cheaper but they would have had some pesticides on them I think so I went with the safer option. Still who really knows if the ones I bought dont also have pesticides on them. I should perhaps give the cheaper option a trial run!

$30 for 50lbs of Organic rye. Talk to the owner of a organic food store. They pay $20-$30 a bag so if you ask respectfully and become a frequent customer, they will give you almost wholesale or if you get a nice manager/owner, they sell it to you without making any profit.

You're always gonna pay a premium for rye berries instead of WBS.

If you can't find rye locally, Amazon has a decent deal: $42 for 50 lbs, or 84 cents a pound. Food grade, organic, and free shipping. Ignore the fact that the description says it's coarsely ground; it's whole.
