Types of Lids
    #17346644 - 12/06/12 08:05 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Are there instances when certain lid methods are better suited IE types of mushrooms, cakes, grains,or liquid culture? I have been using poly fill since it is what I have but, I am never certain that I have it tight or loose enough. Should I be using Tyvek instead, Micropore tape, or should I just spend a little and make my own lids with silicone, filters and injection ports?

Here are the lids I prefer strictly for G2G transfers and agar wedge transfers. Just a 1/4" hole with a quarter sized piece of SFD(Synthetic Filter Disc) siliconed on.

It depends how tehcnical you wanna get. Micropore tape and tyvek is easy. But rtv and sfd will last indefinitely

So these are not suitable for liquid inoculation?

Not really, unless you wanna pop the lid in a SAB(Still Air Box), shoot it in, and then seal the lid back.

Never inoculate through a Synthetic Filter Disc.
