A analy detailed question?

Ok have heard many times how person "A" uses a quart of this or a pint of that.

From experience and what I have read when one says a quart of lets say popcorn, one needs to fill only partially full so jars contents can be shaken.

To what level on grains do people fill there jars?
Do some completely fill them or just 1/2 full or 3/4?

Reason I ask is, when a tech is created and calls for lets say 3 quart of colonized popcorn, if the creator of the tech uses 3/4 full jars or completely full ones and a person trying to duplicate uses lets say 1/2 full jars, He or She could grossly miscalculate the amount of spawn needed by literaly a quart or two of spawn.

Sorry for being a little to technical but thought it merited attention in the least that when people make a tech they explain what is the amount in there jars.

I fill them so after the grain is cooked and shaken it takes up 2/3 of the jar.

About two-thirds works well; the jars are fairly full, but still have enough room in them to shake effectively.
