What are your favorite Shpongle tracks?
    #1733326 - 07/20/03 11:05 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

My list, in rough order

1. Divine Moments of truth
2.
3.
4. Around the World In a Tea Daze
5. Behind Closed Eyelids

I recommended Shpongle to a friend, and he downloaded a couple tracks and said they sounded like "enya songs that didn't make the cut" :frown:   :mad2:

...and day turned to night - an amazing composition where percussion is "auditioned" into the song as we listen

Shpongle Falls - an excellent introduction to "Are You Shpongled?"

Dorset Perception - an excellent introduction to "Tales of the Inexpressible"

STOP PIRATING SHPONGLE! You need it in cd-quality to really hear everything..

I own Are You Shpongled, Tales of the Inexpressible is shipping right now, and I am anticipating getting the new album soon after it comes out. You are right, the quality and continuity of the actual discs makes them very worth owning.

Ok, I wanted to pick up one of their discs to check out, everyone seems to love them, but they weren't available at amazon.com, which surprised me since they seem to have some pretty obscure stuff. Any suggestions?

1. Behind Closed Eyelids ( My brain still hurts when I try to comprehend this music)

2. Vapour Transmissions (Great variety of electronic "solos" and "riffs")

3. Dorset Perception. (gotta love the guitar and that haunting woman voice)

4. A New Way To Say Hooray ( I thought I would get tired of hearing Terence McKenna say the same stuff everytime I listen to the song but now it just wouldn't be right without McKenna  )

5. Every single other song is amazing, only other band I can say that about is Tool.

hey man, remember that PM you sent me about Sphongle, did you not get my reply which directly explained why I had to download the songs?
Well I'll say it again since you seem to take my pirating to heart: I have looked all over my local area stores for Shpongle albums, most stores such as Music World or Sunrise don't even have them on their database and HMV said they could order it for $37 CDN which no way in hell I'm paying. I went to Toronto and looked in several big name and private music stores and nobody has heard of Sphongle. I went to Amazon but since I don't have a credit card right now I can't order it. So you see I've tried, so very tried, but could not find Shpongle :shake: . So either I download it or don't enjoy their music at all. Btw, 192 bitrate is better than regualr CD quality (which is 128kbps), trust me, I hear everything and the song transitions are pretty much smooth with no silence in between.

The first time I ever heard Shpongle was on mp3.  It was then that I decided to buy it.

Not everyone can afford to buy CDs that they havent even heard before!!  Gotta test them out first.

192 bitrate is NOT better than CD!!  CD is at least 320.  I have 320 rips of Shpongle from the CDs I bought. And in the case of Shpongle, the CD is a must have.  It wont matter if you are listening to it on computer speakers.  But trust me, if you listen to it on headphones or a nice stereo, you will hear the difference.  The other good thing is that the songs flow into each other perfectly on the CD.  With mp3 you will get the breakup between songs.  Of course you can believe all day that the mp3 is as good as the CD, because thats all youve heard, but you can never really know until you hear the CD.

I got the CDs by giving money to a fellow human I know who has a credit card and ordering it from www.amazon.com using the card number.

"192 bitrate is better than regualr CD quality"

Unfortunately that's incorrect, at least with the "LAME" encoder (or any other one I've tried), which seems to create the best-sounding MP3s from my experience.

Many local music shops can order the album for you.. particularly Shpongle, one of the most popular psychedelic electronic artists of all time.

heh I wasn't talking to you specifically when I said "please don't pirate Shpongle.. on mp3s you can't even hear the coolest stuff!" that was kind of a "Public Notice"  Peace, pirate

edit: by the way, it is IMPOSSIBLE to make a "better-than-CD-quality" copy of music taken from a CD.. IMPOSSIBLE - you can't extrapolate more data from a CD than is already there.

Man I used to be in your boat - I had Shpongle pirated as well; for a long time. I thought it was the best of the best, UNTIL I GOT IT ON CD - I was blown away all over again - the differences between ripped mp3s (even "high-quality" and high bitrate ones) almost seem intentional; its that pronounced of a difference.

I haven't encountered many artists other than Simon Posford who make their shit so detailed that a lot of the stuff can't even make it through mp3 compression; even with high bitrates..

lol ok that's enough from me

hmmmm, see my parents don't have a credit card and neither do my friends but I'm gonna try and get one from my bank to do some shopping on Amazon ( I want to buy an Alex Grey book  ).  If you guys say that Sphongle will blow you away all over again on cd then I will take your word for it and give it a shot and get Are You Sphongled? I realize I was mistaken by saying that 192kbps is better than CD quality, I didn't read the following  chart properly and assumed anything above 128 kbps is better than cd, silly me

heh I wasn't talking to you specifically when I said "please don't pirate Shpongle.. on mp3s you can't even hear the coolest stuff!

Can you give me a particular example from a Shpongle song that would be difficult to hear on mp3?

its the details, man - many sounds in the cd "come from somewhere" and "go somewhere" and this is just way more clearly heard/felt at CD quality .

of course you want to make sure you have a nice stereo or some killer headphones to get the best experience - Shpongle seems to test the limits of every stereo I've played it on (many..)

what blows my mind... well so many things blow my mind about shpongle... but one of the first relevations I had... that guy took the generic text-to-speech computer voice.  He bent it, played with it, made two of em, and made such an amazing little harmony.  He brakes the rules of western music.  you don't write consecutive fifths.  hell, he does that in multiple songs; starshpongled banner and divine moments of truth both have that.  ANd I can hear how it wouldn't work, but... it works.
