Most likely not from MS straight to bulk.

#4 Coprinoids (Inky Caps)

A common contaminate mushroom often seen in bulk cultivations using manures, composts, straw or soils.  The spores of many coprinoids are thermotolerant and can survive inadequate pasteurization.  There are many species but the contaminating types are all fast growing and fragile with most dissolving into an inky liquid at maturity. The cap coloration can be white, brown or gray.  The young caps are usually egg shaped, but mature into a bell or parasol shape before melting down.  Spores are black.  Not active, not edible (some species can be somewhat toxic, but none are considered deadly)

Could be a bad spore source ( which you should never mention in association with cultivation), but it could be improper pasteurization.

I'm sure it was improper pasteurization. I just went and looked and there are several dead ones on the rest of the straw bale.
I guess I need more heat.

Id still try to eat em. 1 cant hurt. Just to test. They look just like the shaggy manes that grow on my lawn. Which itself is a coprinus species. If their tasty, get some spore prints.

Could something else have been on the straw that made it through the pasteurization?

That would be my guess.

just don't drink alcohol before..

Consuming Coprinopsis atramentaria within a few hours of alcohol results in a "disulfiram syndrome".[12][13] This interaction has only been known since the early part of the twentieth century. Symptoms include facial reddening, nausea, vomiting, malaise, agitation, palpitations and tingling in limbs, and arise five to ten minutes after consumption of alcohol.

those have popped up in a lot of outdoor grows i've done. its a whole different culture. they always show up when i use straw and don't pasteurize. outside i don't care i pick the ones i want and leave those little fuckers for the slugs. you just fucked up pasteurizing is all. try again and don't use straw it kinda sucks and has led me to more contamination problems than what its worth. coir h poo all day.

I think I will take your advice. The straw is a pain.

Straw hasn't treated me well. Maybe cause i'm terrible when it comes to pasteurizing.

its recommended to pasteurize separately then add it to the main substrate cause it can use some extra precautions. look up rr's video on straw prep or better yet buy his video for like 8 bucks its worth it. i've tried it a handful of different ways and just have more success without it. especially when i used to mix all my substrate into filter bags and knock it up with lc and skip the spawning step, but fuck that grain jars are easy and coir and h poo are easy. keep shit simple. keep it simple and there are less things that can go wrong. thats my biggest advice. people get to caught up in trying to go all out at first and that's when i find they run into a lot of problems.

That was my mistake I guess. Trying to go all out before I knew what I was doing.

thats just my recommendation based on personal early disastrous grows. first time keep it as simple as fucking possible. fewest ingredients needed. then add one variable at a time and find out what works best for you. its a slow process but a rewarding one.
