Humidity 120 % ?????

You know this friend of mine just bought an hygrometer and put it in a plastic bin to measure the RH. The resulting measurement was 120% after 2 hours of putting it inside. Is this possible ? Air is bubbled six times a day, one hour each time, through a mug containing boiled water and H2O2. No hand misting.

The relative humidity can only reach 100%. Your hygrometer is crap, try and calibrate it: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7993

Here is what 120% humidity means:
say that you have a 50 gallon grow device, and your perlite, water that you poured in and cakes take up 5 gallons worth. Thats 45 remaning gallons. 120% humidity means that all of the remaining space, PLUS 20%, is humidity. Each part of the terrarium has it's own mass, plus 20% more, in water. Impossible.

When it rains the humidity is over 100%
So lysergic... How would over 100% be impossible in a chamber? Please explain I'm just dying to know.

*laughs* maybe it is caused from the water being bubbled six times a day?

>When it rains the humidity is over 100%
Not necessarily. The definition of relative humidity is based on a water vapor pressure over a flat water surface. Under certain circumstances (in clouds), the relative humidity(based on that flat surface premise) can be a couple percents higher than 100%.
"Because relative humidity is relative to "saturation" above a flat surface, it is possible to have humidities exceeding 100%. However, because of the ubiquitous presence of condensation nuclei (e.g., dust, salt, etc.), relative humidities in the Earth's atmosphere typically do not exceed 100% at the surface or 102% within clouds."
For details, read the following 2 links: http://www.ems.psu.edu/~fraser/Bad/BadClouds.html and http://fermi.jhuapl.edu/people/babin/vapor/index.html

Hey man, how did you know it is an analog hygrometer ? Does these false measures not happen with digital ones. Another thing, the hygrometer itself is supposed to be a good one, at least that?s what this MF of salesman told me, he said: It?s the best cigar analog hygrometer ever done. It cost me 30 euros= 30 $ (more or less). Did they cheat me ? Please tell me, cause if so, I?m gonna kill this MF tomorrow morning.

If your hygrometer measures 120% RH in your terrarium, it's at least crappy calibrated. Possibly the meter itself is just crappy. Go back to the shop and get a different one. ? 30,- is worth the hassle.
