Adding Spawn to a 4 day old mono tub -- Bad idea?
    #17328028 - 12/03/12 05:23 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

So I just found an extra quart jar of spawn that I had somehow looked over when I was preparing my mono tubs.

This is my first grow, and the 2 tubs were set up 4 or 5 days ago, WBS>Coir/Verm (Damiens Elementary Tek). One tub has 5.5 quarts of WBS, and the other has right around 5 quarts mixed in.

It would be wise to mention that I did make the mistake(?) of leaving a bit too much coir in the bucket (damien recommends putting a small amount to the side to cover the mixed spawn/coir), so there is a ~3/4" layer of straight coir on top the mixed coir and spawn.

Would it be wise to divide the quart of spawn evenly between the 2 colonizing tubs, and lightly mix it in the top coir layer?  I guess im asking if it would help cut down colonization time and not be a risk of contamination.  There is only a few very small areas around the edges where mycelia has popped up through the coir layer

Any input on the matter is greatly appreciated.  Cheers!

Ah, sorry--->The only reason I didn't mention that is because I already have a few dozen G2G transfer jars colonizing at the moment and all my silicone/tyvek lids are being employed with those jars, so that is ruled out.

I wouldn't do it. Your substrate is vulnerable right now. Just stick those spawn jars in the fridge for the next batch.

These are the TEKs I use. They're all as cheap and easy as possible, just like your mom.

I see.. I'm goin to sit this one out
But I don't think opening a colonizing monotub is a good idea

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but like I said, this is my first go around so just thought it'd be best to ask around first.  Thanks for taking a look at the thread anyways
