Hello Shroomery,
Noobie here just looking for some insight.
I found this in my jars today and it seems as if it is pinning. Any advice would be appreciated.

U need those to be in complete darkness. Mycellium doesn't like sun light

Wrong... ambient light is beneficial to mycelium at all stages.
Early pinning can be a sign of an unseen contaminate. Or from handling the jars to much, disturbing the dry vermiculite barrier and introducing Fresh air.

you need 1/2 pint wide mouth shorties.
they colonize quickly and more evenly, and dont stall out/pin early

I've been scouting out where to get some short half pints. Perhaps I will use them next go around.
There's a good chance the dry verm layer was disturbed from handling which could have introduced air.
Any ideas what to do about these 2 jars?
Thanks for the help.

I found the shorties at ace hardware.
My advice let them go and see if they contaminate.... if they do toss 'em-- if they dont all's good....

I use the same jars, the taller 1/2 pints and they always end up like this. I have yet to have contaminated jar, knock on wood. Just birth them now and scrape away as much of the uncolonized cake as possible and dunk n roll!
Also, every time I do PF Tek I always wait to see pins before birthing. I've noticed that cakes with pins pre-birthing tend to produce more than cakes birthed without pins. This could be coincidence just wanted to suggest it.

They look almost already almost 100%.... Just wait it out...
It's fine to dunk with pins, just be gentle.

After looking at the pictures more closely I would suggest waiting about 2 days before birthing, not now as I said previously. However, it's possible your myc has stalled as it often does with the taller 1/2 pint jars. It's also possible you have verm from the top that fell between the glass and cake which makes the top appear less colonized.

The myc doesn't seem to have stalled. It has been growing very steadily. I'll keep an eye on them and decide what to do in the next 2 days.
Thanks again for the input!
